CHINA Jiao Jin-hai: Zheng (The Art of the), Vol. 1
CHINA Jiao Jin-hai: Zheng (The Art of the), Vol. 2
About the Composer/Performer:
Jin-hai Jiao composed and performed the Zheng music on this disc.
About the Music:
This is traditional sounding (at least to my ears) Chinese music. The Zheng is a Zither like instrument distinguished from its Chinese cousin, the Qin, by the bridges that hold up the strings.
UPDATE: I know I really haven’t said much about these 2 discs. I feel they convey the most authentic ethnic-Chinese music sound I’ve heard. I’m presently listening to more discs that Naxos is featuring for Chinese New Year (Feb. 18) and Spring Festival. I’ll probably blog on the lot of them when I’m done.
Greetings,
I am going to Hong Kong in 2 weeks, my first time anywhere NEAR Asia, and I have been listening to as much Chinese music as possible. The art of the Zheng by Jin-Hai Jiao is one of my favorites as well as the Yangqin, i think?
I was quite surprised to find out that what i like is Chinese ‘classical’! Well, not too surprised as that is what i like in the States.
I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations of where i might be able to catch some performances using these instruments while in Hong Kong?
I would welcome any other kinds of information as well
.
Thank you!
